After much anticipation, game day 1 had finally arrived, after a slightly later start than yesterday the teams headed off in their respective directions for 3 T20's.
The girls headed off to Polonnaruwa College Ground, after a drive through the stunning countryside they arrived. After a swift warmup and large amounts of zinc and sun cream they won the toss and elected to bat. A strong start from Aimee Diab and Suri Shah put the girls in a strong position. At the close of their innings the girls finished with a formidable 173-8, Suri Shah top scoring with a dominant 70 runs. Royal College Polonnaruwa got off to a powerful start finishing the powerplay at 52-0 and looking good in the chase. A strong start to the tour for the girls.
Both boys teams travelled to Maliyadeva college for back to back games, The 2nd XI were up first. Also with a swift warm up the boys were put in to bat on a very flat track. Eliot Northam got the boys off to a flyer, plundering 17 from the first over. However some well targeted bowling from the spinners, Maliyadeva college began to fight back. Wickets fell regularly throughout the innings as the boys were restricted to a respectable 131 all out. The boys then went out to bowl. Henry Myers got the boys off to a flyer, bowling a maiden from the first over and restricting the college to 25 from the powerplay. A fightback came in the middle order as the college set in however some tight bowling from Fred Rowbotham kept the College in check as the 2nds eventually came to a 20 run win. The boys 1sts also batted first and got off to a flyer as Alex Corbet took control in the powerplay. The runs kept flowing as the boys posted a strong 158-4. Alex Corbet posting a flawless 111* Not Out. Not many came from the powerplay with some excellent bowling from Tino Mutekwa as wickets fell regularly however a rear end fightback left the game with 6 to win from the last ball however the boys proved too strong in the end as they came to a 5 run win.
