The fourth day of our cricket tour in Sri Lanka was full of successes and improvements. The girls played the strong side of Mahamaya college at their beautiful home sport ground in Kandy. The ground was a hive of activity, with a variety of sports surrounding the game. With their consistent and accurate bowling, teddies managed to get a total of 138 all out with Aimee getting 50 and Bella Frieda coming in towards the end to get 21 runs. The girls were just out of reach for a win as an under 19’s Sri Lankan player came into bat to get 80 and brought them to victory.
The boys 2nds had triumphs in their win, against fellow English team, Compton and Chandlers Ford CC. Aryan Khanna opened the batting to get the team off to a good start scoring 38 runs. The highlight of the match was Henry Myers 5-20 including a memorable hattrick. It has to be mentioned, the Jonny ‘Carey’ incident, potentially match defining. As per the girls, on the way back from the fixture, the boys indulged in fresh coconut water, a Sri Lankan tradition.
The boys 1st team travelled to Wickrama Baku college, with a slightly delayed start time due to the opposition's best players being in exams, allowing the boys to take in the atmosphere of the school; this included a marching band and a large crowd. The boys batted first once again, setting a target of 202-6 off 35 overs. The highlight of the innings was Barney Villiers 60 off 37 balls whilst JJ Kane and Evan Cowley chipped in with valuable 40’s. It was an impressive start to the bowling innings, Ollie Rogers set the tone with early wickets, finishing up with figures of 3-20. Wickrama Baku finished their allotted overs with 133-9. A solid effort by the boys in tricky conditions with a particularly sandy outfield.
It was a tough but rewarding day of competitive cricket for all the teams having played back to back fixtures, the teams enjoyed a quick dip in the pool before another tasty evening buffet. Everyone is looking forward to the sightseeing day in Kandy to come.
